Theater goers do not need to be a country music aficionado to appreciate the deep and rich song styling of Jenny Lee Stern who portrays Patsy Cline in Infinity Theatre’s production of Always…Patsy Cline. From the parking lot to the stage itself, the mood is set by the band with upbeat, toe-tapping instrumentals of Ms. [...]

Theatre Review: ‘The Price’ at Bay Theatre Company

Most of Arthur Miller’s works are intense and emotional, and The Price currently in production at Bay Theatre Company is no exception. It’s 1967, and Police Sergeant Victor Franz (Peter Wray) has returned to his family’s New York brownstone. The play opens with Victor entering the attic and surveilling it as if it’s a crime [...]

At Compass Rose Theater’s new location on Spa Road in Annapolis, they are currently showing Eleemosynary; “Spelled e-l-e-e-m-o-s-y-n-a-r-y and defined as, “Of, relating to, or dependent on charity; charitable.” Playwright, Lee Blessing repeats the definition throughout the play, reminding the audience that charity is a give and take. And that is what Dorothea (played by [...]

Bay Theatre Company presents a double feature of Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You and The Actor’s Nightmare. Though technically speaking, the billing should be switched because The Actor’s Nightmare is the first of two plays by Christopher Durang. Steven Carpenter is a laugh-riot as George Spelvin in The Actor’s Nightmare — or [...]

Put together a cantankerous 81 year-old judge and a feisty 25 year-old married woman and you’ve got Trying now playing at The Colonial Players of Annapolis. Time: Mid-November – June; the years: 1967 – 1968; the place: Washington, DC. Judge Francis Biddle, played by Michael N. Dunlop, enters his office above the garage of his [...]

Tucked away in a strip shopping center in Annapolis is Compass Rose Theater. Though the space is small, the theater’s production of Neil Simon’s 1960’s classic, Barefoot in the Park, is big — or at least delivered in a big way. Brianna Letourneau bursts onto the stage as Corie Bratter. Vivacious and enthusiastic, the young [...]

Theatre Review: ‘The Two Gentlemen of Verona’ at The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory

The cast of 'Two Gentleman of Verona'.

The pre-show of The Two Gentlemen of Verona is as entertaining as the production currently playing at The Baltimore Shakespeare Factory. By entertaining, it is laugh-out-loud funny and fun as audience participation is highly encouraged. From singing along to throwing stress-ball tomatoes if an actor says, “Line,” the ensemble cast pulls the audience into the [...]

Theatre Review: ‘All Shook Up’ at Rockville Musical Theatre

allshookup-102912

All Shook Up at Rockville Musical Theatre is a toe-tapping, hand clapping extravaganza that is inspired by, and features songs of, the late Elvis Presley. Patrons, mid-40s and older, will get a kick out of the nostalgia of yester-year, and those under 40 will gain an appreciation for the King himself. Many of Elvis’ most popular songs like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” and [...]

Theatre Review: ‘Over the Tavern’ at Olney Theatre Center

A Polish-Catholic family lives in Over the Tavern, a charming Olney Theatre Center production set in the fall of 1959 in Buffalo, New York. The play, written by Tom Dudzick, is reminiscent of Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memories and centers on 12 year-old Rudy Pazinski played by Noah Chiet. Rudy is struggling with his approaching confirmation [...]
